DEAR_USER

A friendly welcome to our March 2018 Newsletter.

This month, we are delighted to release our monthly focus dedicated to upper GI surgeries, and especially redo procedures after failures of hiatal hernia and GERD treatments, including a special "HOW TO" aiming to provide a thorough technical description of a Collis lengthening procedure for shortened esophagus.

In line with this focus, we would like to inform our members that courses related to these topics will be organized at IRCAD France and Taiwan should they wish to register for these.

IRCAD France: Minimally invasive esophagogastric surgery, October 25-27, 2018
IRCAD Taiwan: Upper GI tract/POEM, November 22-24, 2018

For our skull base and ENT surgeons, microscopic and endoscopic approaches to the skull base will be highlighted with a selection of 10 authoritative lectures.

Explore our WeBSurg Hall of Fame update with international video contributions in different surgical specialties.

Many thanks for your support and devotion. We hope that we are allowing you to make the best of your learning experience on WeBSurg.

THIS MONTH'S FOCUS:
UPPER GI SURGERIES:
REDO PROCEDURES AFTER FAILURES OF HIATAL HERNIA AND GERD TREATMENTS

The focus of this month is dedicated to the reoperations, often complex, performed after failures of gastroesophageal reflux and paraesophageal hernia surgery. Different clinical situations are outlined and managed using diverse surgical procedures, representing the current therapeutic approaches to these complex situations.

THIS MONTH'S HOW TO:
Collis lengthening procedure for shortened esophagus

In our March HOW TO section, discover the Collis gastroplasty, a prerequisite procedure in order to create an antireflux repair in case of hiatal hernia with short esophagus. John Leigh Collis originally described the technique in 1957, fashioning a gastroplasty tube to lengthen the esophagus. A Nissen fundoplication complements the Collis gastroplasty to achieve an antireflux repair.
