DEAR_USER

Discover our July special MONTHLY FOCUS on Laparoscopic Pediatric Surgery, with a selection of lectures and videos, extracted from our latest "Pediatric Surgery: Laparoscopy in Neonates and Children" IRCAD advanced course (March 16-18, 2017) along with Dr. F. Becmeur's videos and external contributions.

Laparoscopic pediatric surgery has much developed over recent years and has set up a lot of challenges for surgeons. In this July issue, find out about the main principles of laparoscopic pediatric surgery, skills training, state-of-the-art lectures on hernia and esophageal and duodenal atresia repair, as well as MIS in pediatric oncology. Among some of the authoritative lectures delivered by world-renowned pediatric surgeons, we bring you:
  • Thoracoscopic staged repair of long-gap esophageal atresia using internal traction suture
  • Morgagni-Larrey hernias
  • Percutaneous internal ring suturing
  • The true herniotomy done by laparoscopy
  • MIS in neonates and children: general considerations
In addition, watch the videoconference by Satoshi Ieiri from Kagoshima (Japan) on:
  • Disease-specific simulator training with focus on suturing

In August, we will be offline. Summer vacations are finally there. Enjoy the slack season to relax and rejuvenate. We will come back alive and kicking in September with a special focus on a pioneering hybrid topic: percutaneous image-guided surgery and therapeutic endoscopy. Stick around!

The WeBSurg Hall of Fame has been running on for almost a year, and we are delighted to disclose the name of the best HD video contributor who has covered original comprehensive and academic educational topics in the field of minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Stelio Rua (Lisbon, Portugal) has just won this year's edition with his video entitled "Low-cost laparoscopic appendectomy: how to teach". This month, we are clearing our contributions list. This means that all contributions which will be sent from now on will be taken into account for a brand-new Hall Of Fame edition. The deadline for this particular edition is July 2018. Of note, the number of views for each video is taken over a 3-month duration after its publication.

We are also delighted to announce the grand opening of a third international IRCAD center in Rio (Brazil).

Many thanks for your support and devotion. We hope that we can continue making your learning experience on WeBSurg satisfying and enjoyable.

Your feedback is always appreciated.

1st International Conference on Sublobar resections for lung cancer, Montsouris Institute, Paris, France
At a time when lung screening programs are being progressively set up, the management of ground glass opacities and early stage tumors is becoming a major issue for thoracic oncologists and surgeons. This explains the recent interest in sublobar resections, the rate of which has dramatically increased in high-volume centers all over the world. As this evolution is arising at a time when thoracoscopic and robotic techniques are also spreading and developing, most surgeons agree that pulmonary segmentectomies should be performed - whenever possible - without opening the chest. However, performing a thoracoscopic anatomical segmentectomy comes with specific technical difficulties and is highly challenging.

It is this challenge that inspired us and led us to organize the 1st international conference focusing on all different aspects of sublobar resections for lung cancer, from indications to preoperative planning and advanced surgical techniques, also paying attention to upcoming technologies.

Grand opening of a 3rd international
IRCAD center in Rio

On Friday June 30, IRCAD inaugurated a new training and research center in Rio de Janeiro, connected to the gigantic Americas Medical City hospital complex, in the presence of IRCAD expert surgeons and industrial partners.

This third international IRCAD center came to be thanks to the partnership signed in January 2016 with Dr. Edson de Godoy Bueno, President and Managing Director of United Health Brazil, a subsidiary of the United States' largest health care insurance company. Due to his sudden passing in early 2017, the inauguration ceremony was dedicated to his memory, and the celebrations which were initially planned were cancelled.
