DEAR_USER
A friendly welcome to our December 2015 Newsletter. We would like to wish you a lovely Festive Season, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are extremely pleased to release this month's focus on technological breakthroughs. The advent of laparoscopic surgery and the emergence of interventional flexible endoscopy clearly demonstrate that digestive surgery of the future will be image-guided. It will be a high quality, reproducible surgery. It will aim to reduce surgical trauma and will endeavour to preserve healthy organs to a maximum. In order to reach these objectives, novel technologies must be developed in order to provide operators with real-time data, intraoperative guidance, and intuitive, less traumatic instruments. This December edition will unveil specific innovative surgical improvements, which are undergoing clinical evaluation such as confocal microscopy, fluorescence, augmented reality, and impedance planimetry. More simply, the size of instruments and of incisions also represent surgical trauma reduction factors as demonstrated by the procedures performed with micro-instruments or using a single incision. This month's topics include pediatric surgery, with a focus on lung surgery in children, skull base surgery, arthroscopic surgery, and gynecologic surgery with a highlight on endometriosis and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Stay tuned to WeBSurg to discover our January's focus on flexible GI endoscopy. We hope that this month's publication will help you extend your knowledge and enhance your expertise. We would be keen on receiving your feedback, which will surely be considered. Please contact us here. Should you wish to contribute to WeBSurg, please click here.
