Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) is the extension of flexible endoscope's reach outside the lumen of the bowel for the purposes of diagnosis, and treatment including resective therapies such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, or splenectomy. While still experimental, NOTES promises to complete the evolutionary arc from open to laparoscopic to no-scar surgery.

WeBSurg has decided to dedicate a new section on NOTES & Interventional GI Endoscopy to provide up-to-date educational materials and videos on new techniques and devices being tested and latest results available.

Creation of an International Training Platform in Robotic Surgery at IRCAD-EITS!

IRCAD-EITS has been elected by the American firm Intuitive Surgical Inc. as its international training platform in robot-assisted surgery, hence confirming the position of IRCAD as a worldwide leader in minimally invasive and robotic surgery.

Consequently, every surgeon in the world will be able to come at IRCAD and get proper robot training on both the da Vinci® Surgical System and the da Vinci® S™ Surgical System.

We have decided to launch a series of downloadable videos, which will then be suitable for video portable media players. To start with, these downloadable videos will be fee-free but as we are facing increasingly high hosting costs, we intend to implement an Internet payment processing platform to cover such expenses.

Downloadable videos (either High Definition or suited for portable media players) will then become fee-based in the next few months.

Upcoming! "WeBSurg Award", a worldwide video contest in laparoscopic surgery

WeBSurg will open a contest called "WeBSurg Award". The aim is to reward the best videos of the year 2006 in minimally invasive surgery. We will recognize and present prestigious awards to members (eg, first prize: Karl Storz endoscopic tower).

Honorees will be recognized during the WeBSurg Award Dinner in June 2007 in IRCAD, Strasbourg. To participate, submit your videos.

Une Toute Nouvelle Section sur WeBSurg : Endoscopie Digestive Interventionnelle et Chirurgie Transgastrique : l'Aube d'une Ere Nouvelle !

La chirurgie transgastrique est une nouvelle chirurgie mini-invasive : les interventions dans le péritoine sont réalisées en passant par la bouche, puis à travers la paroi de l'estomac. Cette chirurgie est utilisée à des fins non seulement diagnostiques, mais aussi thérapeutiques comme en chirurgie d'exérèse (appendicectomie, cholécystectomie ou splénectomie). Encore au stade expérimental, cette nouvelle voie d'abord s'inscrit dynamiquement dans l'évolution naturelle de la chirurgie conventionnelle dite "ouverte" vers la chirurgie mini-invasive, puis vers la chirurgie avec rançon cicatricielle nulle.

Dans ce contexte, WeBSurg innove pour offrir une section consacrée à ces nouvelles voies d'abord transgastriques et à ces techniques d'endoscopie digestive interventionnelle avec une série de présentations, de conférences vidéo présentant les nouvelles technologies employées et leurs résultats respectifs.
