Last March 30, 2011, Strasbourg's IHU project "Institute of Image-Guided Minimally Invasive Hybrid Surgery", led by the IRCAD, with the support of the University of Strasbourg, was ranked first amongst the IHU call for proposals for a total amount of 220 million Euros.

Strasbourg’s IHU will lead the next evolution of medical procedures to Image-Guided Minimally Invasive Hybrid Surgery (MIX-Surg), which will combine the best aspects of minimally invasive techniques from separate specialties including laparoscopic surgery, flexible endoscopy and interventional radiology to create optimal hybrid approaches for improved patient care and quality of life.

The IRCAD Latin America is no longer a project, it has become a reality. The training center will open in July 2011. All courses held at the IRCAD-Brazil will be organized similarly to the ones held at the IRCAD-France and IRCAD-Taiwan, under the scientific supervision of Professor Jacques Marescaux and his team, along with IRCAD's international Faculty.
